Personalize Body To Boost Fresh paint Job With Interior Colors

You can achieve almost any texture by thickening your paint with joint compund.

Thickening paint to add texture to walls is one way to achieve an elegant look in your home. You can simply add joint compound to interior paint for added body at low cost. Several popular types of faux finishes use this technique. Adding joint compund and mixing it well in your paint can produce faux finishes such as the Bellagio, or the paint can be thickened enough for a textured plaster look on the wall.

Instructions

1. Pour a 1-gallon tin of paint into a bucket or large paint tray.

2. Add an entire pail or joint compound. Stir with a stir stick for at least five minutes or until all parts of joint compund are incorporated. Use only joint compound; plaster sets up quickly and will begin drying before you have a chance to use the paint.

3. Test the paint and joint compound mix to see if you can achieve your desired effect. If the paint is too thin, add more joint compound, about 1/2 cup at a time. If it is too thick, add a small amount of water to the paint until it is thin enough for your effect.
