Fresh paint An Exterior Front yard

Prepare your driveway's surface properly before you paint.

Paint an exterior driveway to accent a freshly painted house or to update your driveway's appearance. Concrete paint is available in a formula specifically made for painting driveways. This formula is UV-resistant and protects against gasoline spots, oil and grease. Concrete paint covers approximately 300 to 500 square feet per gallon and comes in a variety of colors. For concrete paint to adhere properly to your driveway, surface preparation is key. An etching solution is used to degrease the surface and enhance paint adhesion.

Instructions

1. Prepare the area by covering electrical outlets near the workspace. Dampen nearby plants with water and cover them with plastic.

2. Sweep the driveway with a broom to remove dirt and debris.

3. Prepare a heavy-duty degreaser, following the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Insert the degreaser mixture into a power washer and adjust the washer to low pressure.

5. Apply the degreaser with the power washer, starting at the top of the driveway. Work your way down to the street. Leave the degreaser on the surface for five to 10 minutes.

6. Scrub the degreaser with a brush to remove rough spots.

7. Adjust the power washer to a high pressure and rinse the area.

8. Apply concrete etching with a garden sprayer. Start at the top of the driveway and work your way down to the street. Allow the area to dry before applying paint.

9. Apply concrete paint with a paint roller attached to a long handle. Work in one area at a time, starting at the top of the driveway and working your way down to the street.

10. Allow the concrete paint to dry for 24 hours before permitting foot traffic on the driveway. Wait a minimum of five days before allowing any automobile traffic.
