Make money painting murals for other people.
Mural painting can go from a hobby to a job if you have the skills, time and clientele to make it work. In order to make this transition you need to figure out what how much money your murals are worth. This can be a complicated task. You don't want to sell yourself short or put yourself out of the market by being too expensive. You also need to consider any previous experience as an artist and how that may benefit your new work.
Instructions
1. Take note of the cost of supplies needed to make the mural.
2. Determine how much you want to make per hour. If you are a new artist you may want to set a lower hourly wage for yourself, but if you are more established, set a higher wage.
3. Estimate how many hours it will take to paint the mural. Large murals with a lot of detail will take substantially more time than small murals with a simple design.
4. Multiply the hours by the hourly wage and add the cost of the supplies. This is a starting point for what you can charge.
5. Compare your fee to the fees of similar artists in the area. You want to be somewhere in the middle. If your prices are too low, the customer may not think you are good enough, but if it is too high, they will go with a cheaper artist.
