Prepare To Fresh paint Hardiplank On The Outside Of Of The House

Read the safety guide printed on the side of the ladder.

Hardiplank is a brand of fiber cement siding designed and manufactured by James Hardie Building Products, Inc. If you are planning to paint the Hardiplank on the exterior of your house, you shouldn't have too much difficulty, as this type of surface is well-suited for paint adhesion and requires very little surface prep. However, depending on the condition of the Hardiplank, and the house in general, you may need to perform a few specific preparation steps to promote a lasting finish and avoid potential mishaps.

Instructions

1. Cut away, with hedge trimmers, any vines or tree branches growing on or near the Hardiplank that may interfere with the painting process.

2. Clean the Hardiplank using a pressure washer. Wait two to four hours for the Hardiplank to dry.

3. Cover walkways, porches and driveways beneath the Hardiplank with fabric dropcloths.

4. Remove loose or peeling old paint using a metal putty knife. Skip this step if the Hardiplank is unpainted.

5. Cover with blue painter's tape areas on and adjacent to the Hardiplank you do not want painted.

6. Coat the clean Hardiplank with an acrylic latex primer, using a roller and an extension pole when needed. Work from a 5-gallon bucket and not a rolling pan. Coat areas of the Hardiplank inaccessible to the roller using a paintbrush. Wait two hours before painting.
