Select A Metal Roof Color

Metal roof color choices will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and product type to product type. Exploring the possible needs of the roof and considering the region the building is located in and the weather the roof will be subjected to should happen before considering a final metal color. Choosing an eco-friendly option or one that aids in energy efficiency may change the color palette available. Whether choosing a metal roof color for a home or commercial building, the decision-making process is the same.

Instructions

1. Decide the most important visual design property the metal roof needs to have. It could be decorative in order to work with the exterior building finishes, it could be meant as a location tool for friends or customers (red and bright blue can attract the eye and make locating the building easier) or a combination of both.

2. Choose a manufacturer to work with. Choose a product to use and ask the manufacturer, or their representative, for a set of metal color samples for the chosen product.

3. Collect exterior building finishes and place them next to the available metal roof color choices. Include the brick, stone or dominant material used to clad the building, the metal finish used on exterior windows and doors and any paint colors used on the building. Include dominant colors of foliage if landscaping plays a role in the exterior finishes.

4. Eliminate those roof colors that do not work visually and rearrange the remaining colors alongside the other exterior finishes.

5. Return to the answers gathered in the first step. Continue to eliminate the roof color choices by referring to the most important visual property required of the roof color.
