Prepare the exterior of your house before you paint it.
Proper surface preparation for exterior paint is vital to the longevity of the new paint. If you don't have a clean, prepared surface, your new paint will not bond well, and it won't be too long before you will be right back out there painting it again. Using a high quality paint and primer will improve the finish and over all aesthetics, as well as helping improve the life of the paint.
Instructions
Prep for New Paint
1. Use the pressure washer to wash away all dirt and mildew, and remove all loose paint. If you have multiple stories or a tall house, you may need to use a ladder to get close enough to use the water pressure to its full advantage.
2. Use a paint scraper to remove the paint left after using the pressure washer, particularly if you have wood siding. Try to remove as much paint as possible. If you have a concrete exterior, you should be able to remove all paint with the pressure washer. Let all surfaces dry thoroughly.
3. Prime all exposed surfaces that will be painted, using the roller and brush. Large smooth areas are most easily done with a roller, while smaller areas and areas with a lot of profiles like wood siding are best done with a brush. Make sure to achieve a complete even coat. Let it dry for the amount of time specified by the manufacturer. Then you are ready for paint.
