Scrape Outside Fresh paint

Painting projects usually require scraping.

Preparation is essential for any exterior house-painting job. The first step is removing any loose or flaking paint. Keep in mind that paint manufactured before 1978 might contain lead. Contact your local heath department or the Environmental Protection Agency if you suspect that the paint you are working with might contain lead. They can direct you to certified professionals who can determine whether the paint contains lead and remove it if necessary.

Instructions

1. Put on a pair of work gloves. Place a drop cloth under the area where you're working. Remove large sections of peeling paint by hand.

2. Use a hook-type paint scraper. Place both hands on the scraper, one hand on the handle and the other on the top flange. Position the scraper on the painted surface, and move side-to-side with it. Remove as much paint as possible.

3. Use the scraper to go over the paint in an up-and-down motion. Remove as much paint as possible.

4. Use a putty knife to remove paint from corners.
