Store Remaining Fresh paint

Painting is an easy and inexpensive way to spruce up your home without having to call in the pros. Anyone who has painted knows that you are usually left with some unused paint at the end of the day. Storing the paint for later use is a smart and economical idea, but many people find that stored paint is rendered dry and unusable by the time they need it. You can follow a few simple rules to store paint and ensure that it will be ready to use in future months or years.

Instructions

1. Use a screwdriver or a paint can opening tool to scrape around the edge of the can and remove any paint build-up. Removing any build-up or debris helps form a tighter seal and prevents the paint from drying out. To avoid build-up, don't wipe paint brushes or rollers on the edge of paint cans.

2. Place the lid on the paint can and cover it with a piece of wood. Use a rubber mallet to hit the wood several times until the lid is secure.

3. Store the paint can upside down in a cool, dry place such as a garage or basement. Avoid letting paint cans get too hot or cold to prevent ruining the paint.
