Use paint to create a surf theme in your kid's bedroom.
If your kid enjoys the beach--especially watching or participating in surfing--try creating a surf theme in his bedroom using paint. There are many approaches you can follow to achieve the perfect surfing motif. Consider your child's age, his favorite colors and your artistic abilities. Beyond this, you need only use your imagination to come up with surf paint ideas for your kid's bedroom.
Surf Mural
Develop an ocean scene for a kid's room. Show different types of sea life under the water, as surfers "ride the waves" above. Use this mural idea to create a single accent wall in your kid's bedroom, or paint a continuous scene that encompasses all four walls. Paint the surf scene freehand, or look for free surfing and ocean-related clip art that you can scale up and use to trace images onto the wall as a guide. For a different approach, try surf-related stencils.
Surf Furniture
Consider painting furnishings with surfing motifs. Paint a bed headboard and table with a series of surfers, or take a more whimsical approach. Create designs of surfer pets or cartoon characters on their surf boards, unaware that there's a monster wave coming up behind them. Use your imagination, but remember to tailor your design to match the age of your child. Add decorative pieces to your bedroom's decor that work with your design aesthetic, such as seashells or a hanging mini surfboard.
Surf Graphics
Use photos of your child and place them on a graphic of a surf board riding the waves. Take photos for this purpose so that it will appear that they are "actually" surfing. You can also include other family members dressed in Hawaiian shirts doing their best to stay on the board. The best part of this idea is that you don't need actual pictures of your entire family out on the ocean surfing. Use a graphics program, such as Photoshop, to create the illusion. A graphics program allows you paste a photo of your kid's head or entire body onto an action photo of a surfer. Print the final product using transparent paper and use an overhead projector to trace these images onto the wall. Now, using the printed images as a color reference, fill in the traced images just like a paint-by-numbers page.
