Create customized pumpkin-carving stencils with your computer's paint program.
Making Halloween decorations should be easy and fun, but for less artistically inclined folks, finding the right jack-o'-lantern stencil designs can be tricky--particularly if children are also helping to carve. In just a few minutes with your computer's paint program, however, you can create the Halloween pumpkin stencil that's right for you and avoid using pricey premade stencil kits.
Instructions
1. Choose a Halloween image using a free online clip art program (see Resources for ideas) and download the image into your computer's paint program.
2. Paint the areas that will not be cut out of the pumpkin white.
3. Remove any parts of the image that you do not want to be part of your stencil.
4. Enclose any parts of your stencil that are open to the blank background of your paint program. Leave a border of about an inch around the stencil.
5. Paint the areas to be carved out of the pumpkin black.
6. Alter the image to fit the size of the pumpkin you are planning to carve.
7. Print your stencil and cut it out, leaving the border around it.
8. Attach your stencil to the pumpkin and begin the carving process.
