Quartz Stone can produce striking paint effects.
Quartz Stone Impressions are a type of finish manufactured by Sherwin-Williams. Use them with various painting techniques to create three different effects: smooth, brushed and striae. Each finish includes glistening flecks inspired by the characteristics of semi-precious stones and revelations of tectonic activity. Use the smooth finish in master suites and entry halls; use the brushed finish as a focal point in a dressing room or den; use striae in guest rooms or wine cellars. These are basic guidelines; you can use any of the finishes in any room.
Instructions
General Preparation
1. Clear the area to be painted of furniture and other decorations.
2. Use the masking tape to protect surfaces that you do not wish to paint.
3. Use the masking tape to protect surfaces that you do not wish to paint.
4. Clean painting surfaces with soapy water. Allow walls to dry.
5. Put on gloves. Open paint cans, stir paint, and pour a small amount into paint tray. Additional paint will need to be added to paint tray as the supply is depleted.
Smooth Quartz Stone Finish
6. Apply one coat of Faux Impressions Quartz Stone Basecoat using the 9-inch roller with 0.5 inch nap. Use the 6.25 inch roller for corners and edges.
7. Allow paint to dry for a minimum of four hours.
8. Apply Faux Impressions Quartz Stone to the wall in small sections. Immediately blend with the base coat using the 6.25-inch roller. Use a random, curving, overlapping paint application pattern.
9. Smooth wet Quartz Stone with the finishing trowel. Trowel should be held parallel to wall. Use a random, curving, overlapping pattern.
10. Allow paint to dry. Remove masking tape and drop cloths. Reinstall furniture and decorations.
Brushed Quartz Stone Finish
11. Apply one coat of Faux Impressions Quartz Stone Basecoat using the 9-inch roller with 0.5-inch nap. Use the 6.25-inch roller for corners and edges.
12. Allow paint to dry for a minimum of four hours.
13. Apply Faux Impressions Quartz Stone to the wall in small sections. Immediately blend with the base coat using the 6.25-inch roller. Use a random, curving, overlapping paint application pattern.
14. Drag wallpaper brush across the wet Quartz Stone using a random, curving, overlapping pattern. Wipe the brush occasionally with a rag to prevent buildup.
15. Allow paint to dry. Remove masking tape and drop cloths. Reinstall furniture and decorations.
Striae Quartz Stone Finish
16. Mix two coats of Duration Home Interior Latex Matte paint into base coat color following label directions for matte finish. Apply one coat of mixture using the 9-inch roller with 0.5-inch nap. Use the 6.25-inch roller for corners and edges. Allow paint to dry per the drying times specified by the manufacturer.
17.Apply Faux Impressions Metallic to the wall in small sections. Immediately blend with the base coat using the 6.25-inch roller. Use a random, curving, overlapping paint application pattern. Allow paint to dry per the drying times specified by the manufacturer.
18. Apply Faux Impressions Quartz stone in straight rows from floor to ceiling using a roller. Cover an area approximately 4-feet wide and allow to dry for 15 minutes.
19. Lightly drag wallpaper brush through wet Quartz Stone in up and down swipes. Wipe brush occasionally to prevent buildup. Repeat painting and dragging process until entire wall is completed.
20. Allow paint to dry. Remove masking tape and drop cloths. Reinstall furniture and decorations.
