Select A Fresh paint Color Plan

Choosing a color scheme that looks professional and pleasing to the eye can be a challenge

One of the most difficult parts of decorating your house is in choosing the right color schemes. You know that you're going to have to live with these colors for a long time, and you want them to last. Still, try to relax and enjoy yourself. You don't need a degree in interior design to make a room look nice. Keep in mind throughout the process that decorating your house should be fun and exciting.

Instructions

1. Visit your local paint store and choose a multitude of swatches from each shade. Choose colors you know you like, and colors you hadn't even considered. Choose some neutrals as well as some bolder, more daring colors.

2. Stand in the room you'll be painting and hold the swatches in front of you. Decide what colors you definitely don't want, either because these colors would clash with the furniture, or they're just not the right shade. Toss these colors into a discard pile. Take into consideration the size of the room and the amount of sunlight it gets. A small or dark room should not be painted in dark colors or the room will become drab and depressing.

3. Make a list of the remaining colors that you are considering. Choose one color to be the base color or the dominant color for your color scheme. This color should match the furniture in the room and should be a color that you can tolerate in large amounts. If you're undecided or uncertain, lean toward a neutral color. Neutral colors are the most flexible and easy to live with for long periods of time.

4. Consult a color wheel, and use it to choose accents to set off this color. Accents can be the complementary colors (the color found opposite your base color on the color wheel), analogous colors (colors found directly adjacent to your base color on the color wheel), or a neutral such as white or cream. The accent color should be found elsewhere in the room, among the furniture and in the accessories. The accent color is what you will paint the trim on the walls, or an accent wall.

5. Return to the paint store and take several samples of different shades of your base color and accent color. Remember that the paint may look slightly different when dry. Paint several swatches on your wall and choose the shades closest to your original plan.
