There are many shades of yellow made by Citadel Colour.
Citadel Colour paints are designed specifically to coat miniature figurines. Yellow is a difficult color to paint well in miniatures. To allow detail to show through, it needs to be thinned before it is painted on, but thinned yellow paint, including those by Citadel, tend to be streaky and translucent. An even, yellow color can usually only be painted on with multiple coats. Citadel Colour makes a number of shades of yellow for all your painting needs.
Citadel Yellow Paints
Citadel has three yellow shades: Sunburst Yellow, Golden Yellow and Desert Yellow. Sunburst is an orange-yellow, while Golden is closer to a pure yellow. Desert Yellow is a much darker yellow, with shades of brown mixed in. On the Citadel Colour chart, Desert Yellow is placed next to the browns and khakis.
Foundation Paints
Citadel's Foundation Paints are a line of heavy pigment paints. These paints are slightly thicker than standard Citadel colors, but provide much better coverage and are suitable for base coats. There is one yellow Foundation paint, Iyanden Darksun, which doesn't require multiple coats in order to provide a flat, uniform yellow, but it is a darker shade, similar to Desert Yellow.
Discontinued Colors
Bad Moon Yellow was Citadel's lightest yellow shade, but it has been discontinued. Yellow is easy to lighten from darker shades by mixing in a touch of white. Citadel also once produced a spray-paint version of Golden Yellow, but that item was also discontinued.
Painting Techniques
Painting Citadel Yellow usually requires patience, with multiple coats of thinned yellow paint. While usually done with brushes, apply a uniform coat with an airbrush or spray gun. All coats of paint should be allowed to dry completely before the next coat is applied.
