Create A Zebrathemed Room

A zebra print couch with solid cushions is a contemporary look for your home.

Creating a zebra-themed room is a fairly easy home decor project. Make your zebra theme come together with zebra print accessories, textiles and artwork and the ideal foundation: solid white walls. Of course, if you're craving a whole lot of zebra print, you can always apply a zebra print to a fourth wall, such as a paint creation developed via stencil or a zebra wallpaper, but avoid placing zebra print on all four walls as it will be a very busy space.

Instructions

1. Remove any furnishings from the room that will undergo the transformation. Paint the walls white; if they are already white, give them a fresh coat of white paint. Add elegant white moldings to the room, as this will give it an elegant appeal, especially when the final zebra-theme items have been incorporated into the space.

2. Decide whether a fourth wall will become a zebra print accent wall. If you proceed, add zebra-print wallpaper to this fourth wall or use a stencil kit to create a zebra pattern on the wall. Let any wallpapering or painting dry throughly before you begin the next step in your DIY project.

3. Place two occasional chairs in the room -- one in a zebra print and another in one of your chosen solid colors. Create a sophisticated style by using textured fabrics for the chairs: Consider real or fake animal hair or leather. Pebbled leather gives off a contemporary style. Add zebra and solid print contrasting cushions to each chair.

4. Add a couch to the space in your choice of secondary, supporting solid color. Accent the couch with zebra throw pillows. If the space is a bedroom, you can add a bed and add zebra print bedding with secondary solid-color sheets and throw pillows. Working with print is all about balancing yet creating contrast.

5. Add framed images of zebras and the African landscape to the walls -- black-and-white photography is ideal. Use black and white wooden frames for a contemporary and appealing finish. Place zebra print material around a piece of board and upholster it, securing the fabric to the back of the board. Add this to a wall (not the zebra print wall) of solid white for an added zebra print finish.
