Dress up a plain pair of canvas sneakers with fabric and paint.
Love those high tops with the skulls and roses or those floral print tennis sneakers, but don't like the price tag? You can customize your own kicks quickly and easily for a lot less cash than buying them.
Instructions
1. Stuff your shoe with crumpled paper until it stands stiffly on its own.
Crumple the recycled paper, and stuff your sneakers until full. Be sure your sneakers are laced. If you are customizing high tops be sure to pack the paper to the top of the shoe.
2. Skulls are trendy, so why not customize your kicks with some?
Decide which images from the fabric you want to apply to your shoes.
3. Cut a piece of iron-on fabric adhesive slightly larger than the images.
4. Be sure to set your iron to the right heat setting.
Lay the pieces of the iron-on fabric adhesive on the back side of the fabric, behind the images you want to use. Iron the fabric and the iron-on adhesive pieces together.
5. Cut out your fabric images, leaving a small border around each image.
6. Peel the paper on the back of the iron-on adhesive from the back of the fabric once it has cooled.
7. Arrange the fabric images on the canvas part of your kicks as you please.
8. Fuse the fabric images to your sneakers by ironing them in place.
9. Outline each fabric graphic with dimensional fabric paint using a paintbrush. Use the fabric paint to add details like dots, smiley faces and squiggles to customize your kicks even more.
10. Leave the paper inside the shoes, and let the paint dry over night.
