Choose an eco-friendly moving company.
Moving is stressful, as well as usually being environmentally unfriendly. With conventional movers, all those cardboard boxes and wrapping and packing materials get used once. There are also those huge vans gobbling up diesel fuel as they make the trip from the pick-up to the unloading destination. Eco-friendly moving companies are changing the industry, using environmentally packaging, materials and fuel and cutting back on wasteful practices.
Green Van Lines
Green Van Lines states that the family-owned business started with the credo that they could "provide a smooth, professional and competitively priced service while maintaining strong eco-friendly practices." All boxes and packing materials come from recyclable or biodegradable sources, and their moving vans use bio-diesel engines. Movers are clad in organic cotton uniforms, and most of their moving pads and blankets consist of the same material. For every move, Green Van Lines plants trees through the Trees for the Future program. The Texas-based company provides both local and long-distance moving services.
Go Green Moving
Calling itself "the environmentally-friendly moving company," Go Green Moving's vans are all powered with bio-diesel fuel. Their "earth-friendly" recycled packing materials also include crates that are returned and re-used at the end of the move. All moving pads consist of 100 percent recycled cotton. Go Green Moving states that it is committed to "minimizing waste in the moving business." It offers local and national resident and corporate moving services.
Rent A Green Box
For do-it-yourselfers, Rent A Green Box offers "America's first, comprehensive, zero-waste pack and move solution" with all boxes constructed from recycled trash reclaimed from landfills. Boxes are made from diapers, number 2 plastic bottles, cereal boxes and other consumer packaging, bottle caps, newsprint waste and aluminum cans. Rent a Green Box currently operates in the Los Angeles, California area, but intends to expand nation-wide. The recycled boxes, called Recopaks, are delivered to customers who pack the items themselves and move, then call Rent A Green Box to pick up the boxes from the new site.
