Make Use Of A Wagner Energy Painter Sprayer

Shutters can be painted quickly with a Wagner Power Painter.

Wagner Power Painter sprayers are available in a range of sizes, from the 1-quart capacity Project Power Painter to the 1.5-quart Power Painter Plus, which also offers the option of drawing paint from a bucket with a 6-foot hose. Power Painters are suitable for spraying shutters, decks, sheds and smaller houses, according to Wagner. They are designed for use by homeowners and occasional painters instead of professionals, and are relatively easy to set up and use.

Instructions

1. Protect the floor or ground below the work area with drop cloths. Use masking tape and paper or plastic sheeting to cover anything you don't want to get paint on, such as windows and furniture. The over spray can drift several feet.

2. Remove the material container from the sprayer housing by twisting it counterclockwise. Remove the suction tube, and apply a couple of drops of household oil to the intake and return openings. Fill the container with paint, and twist the housing back onto the container. Plug in the Power Painter.

3. Adjust the spraying speed level from 1 to 4. The lower speed levels will give you more control and less over spray, but you won't be able to work as quickly. For larger projects, make sure you have everything taped off and shielded so you can use a higher speed. Press the button on the speed control panel to set the speed up or down. With the setting at 1, you can hold the sprayer as close as 4 inches from the surface. The highest setting allows you to work up to 12 inches from the surface.

4. Control the spray pattern (from narrow to wide) with the flow control knob at the rear of the sprayer. Increase the amount of material flow by turning the knob clockwise. Typically, the higher your speed setting, the higher you should turn the flow control knob.

5. Practice spraying on some cardboard or scrap lumber to fine-tune adjustments and learn the technique. Keep your hand and the Power Painter perpendicular to the surface, and apply the paint in an even, controlled movement.

6. Start moving your hand just before you squeeze the trigger. Move your hand at a constant speed, and release the trigger just before you reach the end of the stroke. It's best to apply two thin, even coats of paint than one heavy coat that can run or drip.
