A homeowner can often finish a painting job only to feel underwhelmed by the finished product. While flat, single colors on a wall are quite common around the world, it may not be appropriate for every room in the house. In often-used rooms like the game room, you may want to paint engaging designs and inviting color schemes to help make it a room the family will want to spend time.
Gaming Mural
Why not incorporate different design elements from the many games that you, your family and friends play in a mural. Start with a background on which everything else will be painted. A general landscape will suffice, but why not paint an iconic and familiar video game location such as the Mushroom Kingdom from the Mario franchise or the Emerald Hill Zone from the Sonic franchise by copying screenshots. You can use a projector to project these images onto the wall as a guide for painting.
Once you've painted your background, its time to populate the landscape with some of your favorite characters. Favorite video game characters like Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 or Samus and the Mother Brain from Metroid can re-create classic battles on your game room wall. The suspects from Clue can pose together or the Hungry Hungry Hippos can gather for a feast. You can even include a royal appearance from the jacks, queens, and kings from a standard deck of cards.
Finally, consider including some iconic items from a plethora of games. Legendary video game items like Triforce of Power from The Legend of Zelda or the 1-Up mushroom from the Mario franchise will look right at home with your game characters. Board game favorite items might include the game pieces from Monopoly. Paint sports equipment or stacks of poker chips to round out your ultimate gaming mural.
Records and Awards
Another wall could be devoted to score keeping and tracking individual achievements. Let it serve as a written record of the high scores in any of the video games your family enjoys to play. Old defeated scores can be painted over and re-written, driving competition as players vie to reclaim their spot on the wall of fame.
Tournaments for card, dice and other games can be held, the winners named as champions bound for the wall. This has a much more permanent feel than simply writing the winner's list down on a piece of paper and hanging it. Let the winners paint their own names and championship titles on the wall and keep adding as the years go on.
