An art-themed party works well for a teen boy.
Whether it is for an art student or is just a randomly selected theme, throwing an art party is a unique idea for a boy's 16th birthday. Use decorations, food and activities to interpret this theme in several creative ways to make this birthday his best one yet.
Apt Adornment
Tie a cluster of birthday balloons to a paint can.
At 16, boys do not need a lot of complicated party decorations; however, you can still get artsy with what you use. Make a centerpiece of art supplies in a basket or a vase full of paintbrushes. Find a "Happy Birthday" banner featuring splashes of paint or graphic designs. Fill balloons with helium and use colorful string to tie them to an art-themed weight, such as a can of paint or pack of chalk.
In House
Give the boys a blank canvas to paint on.
For at-home activities for an art party, give the birthday boy art software and let him and his guests create something using the computer. For a painter or drawer, set up easels, pick a famous painting such as the Mona Lisa and give the kids half an hour to see who does the best re-creation. If he is into abstract art, provide everyone with bags with of random items, then give them half an hour come up with a creation. Or hire an art teacher to come to the party and teach a specific technique.
Out and About
Take him to an art exhibit.
If there is a fun, out-of-the-ordinary art exhibit in town, take the birthday boy and his friends to the museum to see it, or take them to an art festival and let them enjoy all the booths, activities and food. Have him find a friend and sign them up for a one-day art class at a college or community center. Alternately, set up an hour or so with a graphic artist who can show the boys some behind-the-scenes magic of video gaming.
Party Fare
Pipe an art word onto each cupcake.
Sixteen-year-old boys are quite fond of the standard pizza and soda, but use his birthday cake to get artsy. Have a cake made to look like a paintbrush, easel or sketchpad. Get a cake made with a picture of one of his drawings, an art trophy he won or him covered in paint at age 3 on it. A simple option is to bake some cupcakes, frost them and use icing in a bag to pipe on art-related terms, such as shape, line, color and balance.
