Extension ladders come in handy for jobs that a regular ladder won't reach. These specialty ladders can be rented in extended heights, starting at 18-feet tall. If you need something taller, some places have extension ladders that reach up to 48-feet high.
Instructions
1. Figure out how high you need to go before you rent an extension ladder. These types of ladders are great for wallpapering, painting or placing wall hangings on high walls and multi-floor structures. If you live in a home with cathedral ceilings, you can use an extension ladder to decorate. These ladders are used for roofing and also come in handy for trimming and pruning high tree limbs.
2. Rent an extension ladder that is rated for the approximate weight you need it to support. Add the weight of the person who will use it to the weight of the load going up and down the ladder.
3. Consider the type of work you're going to do when you rent an extension ladder. Most of these ladders are made of aluminum or fiberglass. Aluminum is lightweight and fine for general work. If you are going to do anything electrical, fiberglass is best. Although fiberglass is heavier, it is safer because it does not conduct electricity.
4. Rent an extension ladder at a tool rental place. Some specialty tool rental shops carry the extra-tall 48-feet high ladders for those jobs that you don't do very often. Some home improvement stores have a rental service section that carry extension ladders.
