Plumbing is not the most glamorous job on the planet, but when someone needs a plumber, they become very important people. This profession is not just about unclogging a pipe. It requires technical aptitude and a customer service attitude. Here’s become a plumbing contractor.
Instructions
1. Work under a master plumber for at least three years. In conjunction with on the job training, a plumbing apprentice must complete 300 hours of classroom theory.
2. Be at least 18 years of age.
3. Take the exam to become a licensed plumber. Not only is this required, but it will let potential customers know the plumber has completed a general set of standards that all plumbing contractors must pass.
4. Understand technical plans and basic math. Plumbing contractors must be able to navigate the inner workings of a building plan in order to resolve potentially dangerous issues. Issues like square footage and pipe fittings are also potential challenges that plumbing contractors must understand.
5. Develop a rapport with customers. Plumbing contractors must learn to promote a sense of integrity, by communicating well with clients and giving them honest answers in what may be stressful situations.
6. Market skills as a plumber throughout the community. The plumbing industry is competitive and plumbing contractors must have some kind of edge in order to compete. Whether it’s the low cost leader or to go to person for a particular type of plumbing issue, plumbing contractor must make a name for themselves that produces the most powerful marketing tool- good word of mouth.
