Choose a paint color your family will enjoy.
Decorating a home begins with the walls. Create a comfortable atmosphere for your living room with paint. Reds and other bright colors create excitement, while blues and greens have a serene effect. Whites and tans are neutrals, which will blend with any color of furniture and accessories. Choose colors that your family will love to live with.
Instructions
1. Look at design magazines and color cards to decide on the color(s) for your living room. According to Rafter Tales, consider the color of the adjoining room as well. Decide if you want an accent wall; this would provide a chance to use a vibrant color such as red or orange. Check out the most popular or unusual color schemes in design magazines. Choose the color(s) that will coordinate with your existing decor.
2. Go to the paint department of a hardware or building supply store. Talk to the department consultant on interior paints. Compare the paints for longevity and washability. There are paints that last for 7 years, 10 years or 12 years. You will need to consider the different types of paints--matte, eggshell, satin or semigloss--and their qualities and how they affect the color.
3. Talk to a contractor who has been in business for many years and has a good reputation. Find out what interior house paint he recommends. After years of experience, he will have a great knowledge of interior paints.
