Most carpets are made of nylon, a durable synthetic fiber. Nylon wears well and can bounce back. Polypropylene is another popular fiber used in carpeting because of its ability to resist stains. Piled carpet is made of polypropylene, but it is not available in a variety of colors. Polyester carpet is much softer than nylon or polypropylene, but does not resist stains as well.
