Bring a boy's all-star dreams to life with a vivid sports theme. Any avid athlete will love drifting to sleep below swooshing nets and large posters. The theme can focus on a favorite sport or be generic to all sports. Brothers who share a room can split the room's décor into two separate teams or sports. Incorporate favorite colors, professional athletes and personal trophies to create a custom haven. Prepare to go pro with bright colors, large murals and interactive wall accessories.
Instructions
1. Select a base color. Lighter colors will make the room seem larger while darker colors can be more bold and dramatic. Consider the child's favorite color and the colors of his favorite sports teams when deciding on a base color. Paint the entire room in this shade.
2. Create a focal point on one wall by painting the child's favorite professional athlete, a scene from his favorite sport, a team symbol or an assortment of props from the sport (such as two baseball bats and a baseball).
3. Remove the doors from the closet and paint the inside of the closet like a locker. Choose a color that contrasts with the base color. Paint all shelves inside. All bars and rods in the closet should be spray-painted silver, white or black.
4. Near the closet, create a scoreboard or strategy-planning chalkboard. Use tape to separate this section and paint inside the tape with chalkboard paint.
5. Place shelves strategically around the room. Paint them the same color as the closet. Use them to display trophies, pictures of the boy playing sports, or other sports memorabilia, such as a baseball glove or football.
6. Paint a basketball hoop on one section of the wall. After painting the backboard, affix an actual hoop to the wall. Place a laundry basket underneath the hoop. In addition to being decorative, this will encourage the boy to clean his room!
7. Stencil sport-related phrases, such as 'play ball!' and 'strike!' in various locations around the room. Replace certain letters with sports items. For example, a basketball can be used instead of an 'O,' and a hockey stick can replace 'L.'
8. Decorate the ceiling with sports posters or stenciled words. Paint the ceiling fan with team colors or in the contrasting colors used for the locker and shelves.
