Exterior home paint.
Exterior paint not only makes your house aesthetically appealing, it also is an important aspect of home maintenance. Paint and caulk applied to the home prevent weather damage to the exterior. If the wood rots or the siding erodes it could cause thousands of dollars to correct. However, you must apply the appropriate paint to cover the home's exterior adequately.
Season to Paint
It is important to paint when the temperature is mild to warm outside for the best results. If it is too hot or too cold, the paint will not dry properly. Also, avoid painting if there is a chance of rain or high winds in the forecast. The paint can't dry with rain or high humidity, and if the wind picks up significantly, you may have dirt particles in the paint. Early morning is a good time to start painting to take full advantage of the day's high temperatures.
Type of Paint
Two of the most common types of paint are latex and alkyd paint. Latex paint is primarily composed of water and dries quickly. The best latex paint is composed of an acrylic binder, often called acrylic latex paint, and boasts high quality sheen. This type of paint can be cleaned using just water.
Alkyd paint is more durable and stain resistant; however, it dries much more slowly. It provides a much smoother look when dry, but requires more coats and more time.
Color
To highlight the architectural detail of the home, look for contrasting but coordinating colors for the trim and accent features. Incorporate your personality in the colors that you choose instead of sticking with common, neutral colors, like white, beige or gray. Distinguishing colors, such as pinks, greens and blues, come in a number of hues and will coordinate well. For example, pair a salmon-colored paint with soft pink trim or coordinate lime green paint with hunter green trim.
