Refinishing metal sconce fixtures is a simple project, often completed in a single afternoon.
Instructions
1. Dip a rag in paint thinner. Wipe the rag over the surface of the wall sconce to remove any chipping paint or the protective clear surface on the sconce, recommends the On the House website.
2. Rub 100-grit sandpaper all over the surface. Be sure all chipping paint or finish is removed. It is important to rough up the surface so the new coat of paint adheres properly.
3. Tape off any areas of the sconce that should not be repainted with painter's tape. Be sure layers of tape overlap one another so small drops of paint do not sneak through.
4. Lay a drop cloth on the floor or outdoors. Be sure the area is well ventilated. Spray paint the surface of the sconce. Allow it to dry. Be sure the sconce dries completely and does not feel tacky.
5. Flip the sconce over and paint the back of the sconce. Be sure all grooves and ornate designs are thoroughly coated in paint. Allow the sconce to dry, and apply a second coat if necessary.
