Make Homemade Fresh paint Stripper

Remove paint
with a homemade paint stripper.

Instead of using commercial products to remove old paint, you can make your own homemade paint stripper. Making a homemade paint stripper will save you money, and it will allow you to make it strong enough for a specific project. While making your own paint stripper seems convenient, it is still toxic and you must take precautions to protect your body by wearing plastic gloves, protective eyewear and a ventilation mask.

Instructions

Borax and Ammonia

1. Combine 2 cups of warm water with 1 cup of borax. Mix until the borax dissolves into the water.

2. Add 1 cup of ammonia and 1 cup of washing soda to the solution. Combine until a paste forms.

3. Apply the paste to the paint stains. Let the mixture set for 20 minutes, and then rinse it off with water. Use steel wool to brush the area to remove the paint.

Washing Soda

4. Combine 1 cup of cold water with 4 tsp. of washing soda. Place these ingredients in a medium-size bowl.

5. Stir until the washing soda dissolves into the water.

6. Add 2 to 3 tbsp. of flour until the solution becomes thick. You may need to add more or less flour to achieve a thick cream texture.

7. Apply the paint stripper to the painted area.

8. Allow it to set for 30 minutes. Use a firm wire brush to scrape the solution off the area. Rinse the area with water.
