Fundraiser Suggestions For Homeschool

There are many ways to earn money for your homeschool.

Some parents choose to homeschool their children due to a poor local school system, personal preferences and other reasons. Homeschools must meet state and federal regulations, and students need books, DVDs, school supplies and other equipment. If you are trying to raise money for these needs, choose from several different types of fundraising ideas. Most homeschool fundraisers require creativity, as they are not manned by a large group of volunteers.

Yard Sale

According to the Fund Raising Ideas Center, yard sales are perfect for the spring and fall seasons when more people are moving, as well as cleaning out clutter to make room for new items. This type of fundraiser is perfect for a family, because it doesn't require many upfront expenses and it allows them to work together as a team. Start by gathering up items to sell from friends and neighbors and then organizing them into similar-item piles. Choose selling prices for each item and label them. Decide on a yard-sale date, either a Saturday or a long weekend, and create advertisements for it. These may include poster boards on wooden stakes or simple paper flyers posted on street poles in your neighborhood.

Hot Dog and Lemonade Stand

Set up a hot dog and lemonade stand during the summertime to make money for fall books and supplies. According to Fundraiser Insight, this type of fundraiser is ideal because this type of food is easy to make, eat and sell. You can buy your hot dogs, buns, sugar, lemons and condiments for a low cost at the local discount store. Your stand will only need a portable barbecue grill and a serving table. You may also want to buy napkins or chips. Set up your stand in front of your house, or ask a local retailer for permission to set up shop in their parking lot. Other stand locations may be at a park or local event.

Curb Painting

People who have their street addresses painted on the curbs in front of their houses can save themselves time and energy with home delivery services, as well as if they ever need emergency services. Your family can offer a curb painting service to a local neighborhood as a way to raise money for your homeschool. All you need is masking tape, paint and number stencils to do this type of job. Advertise your services by going door-to-door and talking to homeowners. Leave printed flyers on doors of homeowners who are not home. Practice your painting skills in advance and make sure to have the homeowner inspect your work for final approval. Be sure to check with your town officials to see if any permits are required.
