Give your a home a Tuscan feel with textured paint.
If you want to bring a little bit of "la dolce vita" into your home, Tuscan decorating can help you do that. With a little paint, you can give your home some Italian style with textured walls that look straight out of Tuscany. Tuscan walls generally have an antique or distressed look. You can achieve this by giving the walls texture for the illusion of antique Italian walls, and can do the project in one room or throughout your entire home.
Instructions
1. Look at your home furnishings to determine which Tuscan style colors to use for painting your walls. Tuscan colors tend to be nature colors, such as warm oranges, browns, yellows and reds. These should be soft and not vibrant color tones.
2. Clean the wall that you want to paint with a soft cloth and all-purpose cleaner. If you prefer, you can simply wipe down the wall with a cloth damped with water.
3. Cover the trim and baseboards along the wall with masking tape so you do not spill any paint on them. Put a drop cloth on the floor to prevent paint from getting on the floors.
4. Mix your latex paint in a bucket with texture additive. This gives the walls a textured look and feel, creating an inexpensive version of Tuscan plaster, which can be very expensive for painting entire homes.
Stir the mixture with a wood mixing stick. The more additive you mix with the paint, the more texture you end up with on your walls. Texture additives are sold in bags and canisters, and resemble sand. The amount of paint and additive needed varies, per manufacturer instructions.
5. Use a paint roller or regular paint brush to apply the paint mixture to your wall. Allow the paint to dry in the specified time listed on the paint labels. Drying time varies.
