Choosing to paint your concrete bath floor will add to the overall decoration of the room and increase the lifespan of the concrete. Painting a bath floor involves cleaning the concrete, preparing it with a concrete sealant and then painting the floor. You want to gather all of the necessary material, organize it so it is within easy reach and at the same time have it easy to maneuver around various bathroom fixtures.
Instructions
1. Sweep the bath floor, removing all debris. Clean the concrete bath floor with a combination of soap and water. Use a scrub brush to make sure you get off all the white dust that forms during the drying process. Rinse well with water. Wait until the surface dries before proceeding.
2. Using the painter's tape, tape the bottom edges of the fixtures where they meet the floor. For example, put tape all around the base of the toilet, right at the edge where it touches the floor. Do your best not to overlap to the floor since you will be painting there. Place tape along the base of walls where they meet the floor. Avoid taping the concrete.
3. Place a trash bag over the paint tray. Consider wearing a respirator while painting if you do not have adequate ventilation while painting in a small area. Add concrete sealant to the paint pan. You should have specifically purchased the type of concrete sealant meant to be used for moisture protection.
4. Using a paintbrush, start painting in the farthest corners of the floor from the bathroom door and work your way back towards the door. Be sure to paint fully paint the sealant behind the toilet. Do not miss any part of it. The sealant must be an even layer and no space of the floor should be missed so that the paint will properly adhere to it. Finish applying the sealant to the rest of the floor. Allow the sealant to fully dry.
5. Remove the trash bag from the paint tray and line the paint tray with a new trash bag. Add concrete paint to the paint tray.
6. Repeat the same steps as before, using a paintbrush to paint in the furthest corners of the floor from the bathroom door, working your way back towards the door. Allow the paint to completely dry. You can remove the tape from around the bathroom fixtures and walls when the paint is dry to the touch.
