Painting any ceiling is a difficult job because you are working on a horizontal surface above your head. Most homeowners want ceiling paints that offer enough coverage so they do not have to apply more than two coats. Valspar premium interior paint has a reputation of offering great per coat coverage and being extremely easy to work with.
Surface Preparation
Clean all the dust off the ceiling with a damp cloth. Avoid using any sort of chemicals because they may affect how the paint bonds to the ceiling surface.
Next, fix any cracks or holes in the surface of the ceiling with drywall mud for sheet rock walls and plaster if you have plaster walls. After the repair material is dry, prime these areas so the Valspar paint goes on evenly.
Now, mask off the ceiling with tape. Around the perimeter of the room, apply painter's tape where the wall meets the ceiling.
Painting
Valspar interior paint is a bit thicker than many other brands, which is why it tends to drip less. Make sure you mix it thoroughly with a paint stirrer stick. Using a stick ensures that all the solvents and coloring agents blend thoroughly.
The next step is "cutting in" the ceiling. Using the 2-inch paint brush, apply paint in the masked-off perimeter of the room where the ceiling meets the wall. If you find some areas where you applied too much paint and notice ridges, blend them down with the brush. After you cut in, apply the paint to the rest of the ceiling surface.
Using a medium nap roller, roll on the first coat of paint. Then allow the first coat to dry. Valspar recommends two to four hours of drying time (depending on humidity) between coats. Apply the second coat. Wait seven to 10 days. Valspar paints are thicker so they take longer to fully dry and any small ridges or brush lines take longer to settle. If the paint coats look uneven after that time, you may apply another coat.
