Install An Ecoworx Carpet Tile

Carpet flooring tiles such as Shaw's EcoWorx have been featured in home decorating shows as a type of flooring that can be installed by a homeowner and unless a permanent adhesive is used, the carpet tiles can later be lifted and repositioned. This type of versatility is an attractive feature because it also allows stained tiles to be replaced inexpensively. Home renters can also use the tiles to add carpet to their homes without making permanent alterations.

Instructions

1. Clean the floor thoroughly. For best results make sure the floor is level and smooth. Because EcoWorx is a peel and stick carpet tile, any grit, grease or other material that is left on the floor surface may prevent the tile from adhering properly.

2. Apply Shaw's 9050 latex primer with a paint roller in applications where a more durable adhesive, such as Shaw's 5000, is being used. EcoWorx is designed for commercial applications and the carpet tiles can be installed as a more permanent flooring surface. Allow the primer to dry for 24 hours before applying the adhesive.

3. Use a plumb line to mark a line at the center of the area where you intend to install EcoWorx that is parallel to the wall. Snap a second line at 90 degrees to the first line crossing at the exact center showing where you will begin your tile pattern.

4. Roll Shaw's 5000 adhesive using a 3/8-inch foam paint roller across the entire floor where the tiles will be laid. The adhesive must dry completely before you can install the carpet tiles. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to dry.

5. Peel the paper off the back of the carpet tile and align the carpet tile along the two guide lines. The straightness of your first tiles will establish how straight the remaining tiles will be. Edges should touch but not press into each other. Cuts can be made using a sharp utility knife or carpet shears. EcoWorx tiles are packaged with nap direction markers on the boxes. Tiles can be arranged in any pattern you like.

6. Roll the installed carpet using a 75-pound roller and don't place furniture or walk on the carpet for 24 hours. For non-permanent installations, use Steps 1, 3 and 5.
