Many amateur do-it-yourselfers don't have any idea safely fix their paint pans in place when working high up on extension ladders. This often leads to messy spills and even dangerous mishaps. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways painters can keep their paint close at hand while working far off the ground.
Three-Way Tray
A three-way tray is a foldout platform that hangs from the underneath of the extension ladder rung. Painters can place their painting pans or cans on this platform when rolling or brushing.
Hanging Paint Tray
A hanging paint tray is basically an inverted paint pan. This tool hangs from the side of the ladder, providing easy access to paint. The bottom of the hanging tray contains a reservoir, which holds the paint. The remainder of the tray contains an area where painters can roll off excess paint from an over-saturated roller.
Painter's Tray
This particular product is only useful for painting with a brush. It offers a secure area to the side of the ladder for painters to place their paint cans. Unfortunately, the tray isn't large enough to hold paint trays. However, it is ideal for painting trim and smaller areas, because it allows the painter to keep both hands free during the application process.
Bucket hook
Most professional painters use a bucket hook to fasten 5-gallon buckets to their extension ladder. Not only are bucket hooks easier to attach and remove than standard paint pan holders, they allow the applicator to haul more paint, reducing the need to descend the ladder to refill pans.
