Choose Fresh paint Colors For Walls

Color can impact your mood.

Picking paint colors is one of the most important tasks when it comes to decorating a room because it has such as large impact on mood. Many people feel overwhelmed as they look at paint samples at a home improvement store without any idea of what they need. Avoid this feeling by arming yourself with information on choosing the right paint color for your home. Think of painting as an adventure to find the right color, and enjoy the selection process.

Instructions

1. Think about the mood that you want to evoke in the room. Colors such as blue, green and soft yellows can feel relaxing, cool and comforting. Dramatic colors such as red and orange are associated with excitement, sophistication and stimulation. Bold colors are good to use on an accent wall because too much of them can feel distracting. Light purples can create a nostalgic or romantic mood. Neutrals such as browns, tans, grays and off-whites are considered refreshing, calm and neat. Neutrals are fail-safe because they are attractive on any wall when accented with a white trim or ceiling. There is a common misconception that black paint is depressing, but with the right accessories it can be quite elegant and trendy.

2. Consider the size of the room as you select a paint color. Dark colors can make a large room seem cozier and intimate. Small rooms will look spacious with a pale cool color.

3. Consider the age of the person that will be occupying the room. A nursery that is painted with soft paint colors such as pastels can be soothing and help your baby sleep better. It's best to select a color that suits your child's temperament for playrooms and bedrooms. Earthy paint colors can calm a hyperactive child while giving him a sense of comfort and relaxation. A teen may prefer bold wall colors such as vivid blue, electric pink or lime green.

4. Pick up paint chips of potential wall colors. Take a look at these paint chips under different lighting sources to get a true feel for the color. The color that the paint chip appears in natural daylight is the closest to the true paint color. Incandescent lighting will draw out warm honey tones in the color. Fluorescent lighting will bring out blue tones in the color. Note your mood when you look at the paint chips under different lighting.

5. Test the color out on the wall. Many home improvement stores offer small containers of paint for buyers to use on their walls to test out the color.
