Getting colors you'll love is important.
Deciding what color scheme to go with in your house is never easy. After all, it's a decision you'll have to live with for some time. Also, there are so many shades and tints available these days that deciding which to go with can seem an intimidating task. But don't panic; approach the problem in a cool, calm and collected way and you'll find there are tips that can make it a whole lot easier.
Instructions
1. Write down your favorite colors and color combinations.
2. Take a stroll through your home, noting which color you think would work best in each room. Remember; colors should flow from room to room. Do not put clashing colors in adjacent rooms.
3. Gather together examples of the colors you like, such as swatches, photographs or pages from magazines. Note how the colors look together. You can even use found objects like leaves, flowers, stones or pebbles.
4. Get a color wheel. This will show you how the colors relate to one another, and can be invaluable in selecting colors that seem to flow naturally. Remember--walls are generally done in light colors, with floors darker and any fittings a medium shade.
5. When you've decided on some colors, purchase small sample pots of paint and try a small patch of paint on each wall. Remember to let it dry, as paint darkens as it dries. See how the color looks in both natural and unnatural light.
6. Buy your paints. Remember most shops can mix whatever shade you desire, so don't be afraid to ask.
7. If this all seems like too much trouble, there are computer programs, such as Colorjive or the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer, that allow you to see virtually what each color would look like in your home.
