Trim vegetation from the sides and seams of the walkway.
Before painting your home front walkway, take steps to improve its adhesive qualities so the finish will not chip away. Whether your front walk is made of brick, wood, cement or stone, it won't hold paint unless it is treated with an adhesive primer that will encourage long-term durability. Even if the walkway is primed it will shed ordinary paint, which cannot endure consistent traffic. Add a specific type of paint formulated for exterior surfaces situated underfoot to avoid refinishing your walkway frequently.
Instructions
1. Trim vegetation from the sides and seams of the walkway using an edger.
2. Scrubthe front walkway with a degreaser using a durable, coarse brush. Scrape stubborn, sticky residues from the walkway using a metallic putty knife.
3. Rinse the walkway using a pressure washer. If the walkway is made of wood, be sure to spray in the direction of the wood grain to avoid splintering. Let the front walk dry for two hours.
4. Roll acrylic primer onto the walkway. Begin at the far side of the walk and move backward as you apply. Watch closely for any possible flaws and smooth them quickly before they start to harden. Let the front walk dry for two hours before touching up skipped areas using a nylon paintbrush. Let the touch-up areas dry another two hours.
5. Wash each tool using a water hose.
6. Paint the front walkway as you primed it. Use a durable acrylic porch paint that will endure consistent traffic. Let the front walk dry for four hours.
