Coordinate Fresh paint Colors Within The Living Room

Selecting a paint color scheme is dependent upon a number of factors.

The family room is the room in the house in which people gather to hang out with each other, watch TV and unwind. The choices you make in terms of your paint selection for the room do much to dictate the mood of the room. While you can certainly head off to the paint store and look at paint chips to help you coordinate these colors, other options are available to you. Selecting a paint scheme for your family room can be as simple as looking at what's already there. Additionally, whatever paint color you go with for your family should reflect your decorating tastes.

Instructions

1. Select paint colors based upon the items you already have in the room. For example, if have furniture and accessories that feature burgundy, butter yellow and mint green, look for these paint colors.

2. Create a visual focal point in the room by choosing one of your paint colors as the primary paint color in your room and select a couple of different colors as your secondary colors. Going back to the burgundy, yellow and mint green color combination, paint one wall with the burgundy and the other walls with either the butter yellow or mint green. Choose either a wall with a fireplace or an open wall to paint with the darker color.

3. Choose paint colors that go with your decorating style. Many styles like Tuscan, Spanish or cottage have color schemes that are typically associated with them. When considering your paint colors, look for colors that support your decorating style.

4. Paint the trim or recessed areas a different color than the main color. For example, if you have a window seat in the family room, paint the inner walls of the window seat with one color and the walls surrounding it another color. You can follow the primary/ secondary painting scheme and paint the walls near the seat the same color as your focal wall, for example.

5. Gravitate toward colors that look good together on the color wheel.
