Fresh paint Exterior Signs

Exterior signs need protection from weather.

Businesses often use exterior signs as a form of advertisement. Business owners can paint these signs to attract potential customers into their business to purchase a service or item. Painting an exterior sign is the ideal way to advertise in a creative and attractive way. Painting exterior signs is a relatively simple process once you have all the right equipment. Whether the sign is made from wood, metal or glass, every exterior sign is painted with the same general techniques.

Instructions

1. Roll on a base coat of paint. If you plan to work with bright colored letters, consider a black or white base coat. Cover the entire front side of the plywood to create a finished work surface. Allow paint to dry before continuing.

2. Paint on your business name, address and phone number using a paint brush. Ideally, you will want to use a one- to two-inch thick brush to display the business information in a legible manner. Allow paint to dry.

3. Paint on a business logo or design. The design should capture on-lookers' attention to attract them to your business . Allow paint to dry for three to four hours before continuing.

4. Cover the entire exterior design with polyurethane. Use a foam roller to apply an even clear coat over the sign. The polyurethane will further protect the sign from water damage.
