Fresh paint Outside Walls

Update your home's facade with paint.

A new coat of paint on an outdoor wall refreshes the look of the exterior facade of any property. Set aside a cool afternoon to properly paint your outdoor wall; high humidity and heat reduce setup time for paint making it more difficult to smooth. Often exterior walls are painted with a sprayer because the sprayer ensures smooth coverage and completes the job more quickly.

Instructions

1. Before you begin painting, assess the condition of the exterior and make any necessary repairs, such as filling gouges with spackle and scraping off bumps with a scraper. Sand the surface with sandpaper in the direction of the wood grain. Wipe everything with your tack cloth to remove any dust or scraped material.

2. Tape off and cover with plastic sheeting all windows, doors, trim, decorative pediments or anything else you don't want to paint over. Cover anything close to the house, such as shrubs or a garden area, with sheeting to avoid splattering it with paint.

3. Put on your safety gear. Set up your sprayer tip. Load primer into your sprayer using the siphon. If you are painting a high area, climb onto the ladder.

4. Face the outdoor wall with your sprayer and hold the nozzle about 8 to 10 inches away from the wall. Begin spraying, using even, smooth, short strokes in the direction of the wood grain. Always stop spraying at the end of every stroke.

5. Let primer completely dry before proceeding. Remove any leftover primer from your sprayer, wash out the sprayer with water and wipe the tip. Load paint into the sprayer and spray following earlier directions. Shield areas you couldn't cover with sheeting with a piece of cardboard.
