Mastercraft doors are manufactured and distributed by Midwest Manufacturing. The company produces interior and exterior doors. The doors are constructed from steel, fiberglass, vinyl and solid wood. Painting a door is similar whether the door is hung indoors or out. The choice of paint will differ for inside or outside doors. Painting a Mastercraft door is a straightforward task and one you can handle over a weekend.
Instructions
1. Clean the door with trisodium phosphate, using a rag. Interior doors from Mastercraft are shipped from the factory ready to paint or stain. Wipe them down with TSP to remove any surface dirt.
2. Sand the door with fine-grit sandpaper. Do not worry about removing all of the finish. Sand enough to create texture on the surface. The help center at MidwestManufacturing.com recommends that steel doors be sanded with fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe the door clean with a mild detergent and a rag. This will help paint adhere to a steel door, as well as any other type of interior or exterior door.
3. Apply a coat of interior or exterior latex primer, using a paintbrush. Apply a thin, even coat. Let the first coat of primer dry to the touch. Apply a second thin coat. Let the primer dry for four hours.
4. Paint the door with exterior or interior latex paint and a paintbrush. Semi-gloss paints will be easier to wipe clean than flat paint. Apply two to three thin coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Allow the door to dry completely.
