Players of "The Sims" control virtual people known as Sims, who can start careers in different job fields. Each Sim's career starts with a entry-level job, which changes and pays more money as he gets promoted. Sims attain the "best" job when they can no longer be promoted. Sims get promoted by having a certain number of friends, going to work in a good mood and increasing their skill points in different areas, including "body," "logic," "charisma," "mechanical," "cooking" and "creativity." Sims can get the best job quickly by obtaining store-bought items that increase their skills and focusing their efforts into getting promoted.
Instructions
Finding a Job
1. Start a game of "The Sims" and click on "Live Mode."
2. Wait until 7 a.m. (in game time) for the newspaper delivery girl to drop a newspaper at your Sim's residence.
3. Click on the newspaper and click "Find a Job." Your Sim will be offered an entry-level position in a random career path. Select "Accept." You will be given a time when a car will pick your Sim up for work each day.
Getting Promoted
4. Click on "Live Mode" and then "Job" after getting a job. This will show you how many friends (if any) your Sim needs to make, and how many skill points he needs under each category, to get promoted.
5. Click on "Buy Mode." There are a variety of items you can purchase that will increase your Sim's skills. The chess board increases logic. The weight bench increases body. The bookshelf increases cooking and mechanical. The paint easel increases creativity, and the vanity mirror increases charisma. Your Sim may need to save enough money to purchase these items through his current job.
6. Have your Sim use the purchased items to increase their skill. You will be alerted when your Sim has used them enough to gain a skill point.
7. Make friends with other Sims by clicking on them and clicking "Greet" as they walk by your Sim's house. After greeting them, click on the neighbor Sims and select from the available options such as "Talk," "Entertain" and "Hug." You will be alerted when your Sim has interacted with another Sim enough to become friends with him.
8. Have your Sim go to work in a good mood when he has attained all the requirements necessary to get promoted. A Sim's mood rises as his needs are met in full. This means making sure your Sim is well fed, has had plenty of rest, has been social, has an empty bladder and has been having fun through entertaining activities such as watching television or playing a game. You will be alerted automatically if your Sim gets promoted.
9. Continue building the necessary skills and friendships necessary to get promoted as outlined under "Job." Each career offers multiple opportunities to get promoted.
