Christmas Focal point Projects

Make Christmas centerpieces as a holiday craft project.

Christmas is the perfect time for crafting. Create a holiday centerpiece that will only take a few minutes but will have guests wondering how you made it and where you got it. Simple, easy centerpieces look festive and are perfect for parties, holiday dinners or just for decoration anywhere in your home.

Shoebox Project

Take an empty shoebox and cut a square into the top. Ensure it is big enough to hold a piece of floral foam. Decorate the box by gift wrapping it with holiday wrap. Cut through the wrapping paper where you cut the square to make a hole. Place the foam into the square. Stick fake Christmas flowers such as poinsettias and other greenery and decorations into the foam. Arrange them as you like to make your centerpiece. Add ribbons as well for more decorative flare.

Wreath Centerpieces

Purchase miniature wreaths that are either green or grapevine. Buy clear glass votive candle holders that will fit through the center of the wreaths. Wrap red ribbon or wire around the wreath. Using a hot glue gun, glue miniature Christmas ornaments around the wreath. You can make bows out of sheer red ribbon and hot glue one to each side of the wreath. Insert your votive candle holder along with a red candle and light it. Make several of these for a large table and vary the decorations and colors used to add interest.

Christmas Basket

If you're pressed for time but need a fabulous centerpiece, fill a basket. Purchase a wicker basket from a craft store and some artificial Christmas greenery. Lay the greenery in the bottom of the basket and fill it with colored ornaments, garlands and pinecones. Tie red or green ribbons around the basket handle. You can fill baskets with anything. If you're not into the greenery, fill the basket with big, shiny ornaments and tie bows on the handles that match the ornaments.

Candy Tree

Make candy trees for a sweet centerpiece. Paint a flower pot in Christmas colors and put a piece of craft foam into the bottom. Insert a 6-inch plastic dowel into the craft foam. Insert a 4-inch craft ball on to the top of the dowel to create the top of the tree. Use straight pins to pin wrapped candy on to the craft ball. Cover the ball with candy and make several layers. You can tie small bows and pin those on the tree as well. Decorate by wrapping a ribbon around the dowel and sticking some lollipops into the flower pot.
