Tuscan homes have distinctive colors, materials and design items.
Tuscan-style exteriors have an organic elegance, giving off a sense of always having inhabited the natural landscape as effortlessly as a tree or large piece of boulder might. You can find Tuscan-style homes in the many areas, including the southwestern portions of the U.S., in places like Nevada, Texas and southern California. Create a Tuscan-style exterior by the colors, materials and plants that you surround your home with and the decorative and landscaping decisions that you make.
Instructions
1. Paint the exterior of your home in warm cream and yellow tones. Use tone-on-tone colors to create a flushed shade of cream that has texture and palpable warmth -- iconic of most Tuscan-style homes. Install terra-cotta tiles on top of your roof.
2. Create Tuscan-style entryways at the front and back of your home. Rebuild your doorways so that they're arched with columns on either side. Install a high, decorative wrought-iron fence on the exterior of your property to create an ornamental sense of privacy.
3. Use weathered, whitewashed bricks to create a pathway around your garden or through your backyard. Add decorative, hand-painted ceramic tiles to your patio, to give it a Tuscan feel.
4. Grow olive trees, Italian cypress trees, citrus trees, Italian shrubs and hedges to your landscape. Don't overcrowd your garden space. Rather, use the trees and plants for privacy and to adorn the edges and borders of your garden.
5. Add wall fountains or stone fountains to your garden to give it the final Tuscan accent. Add wrought-iron decorative grilles to the outside of your windows to accent the look.
