A faux suede paint job can make an unexpected statement in any room of your home. Although it requires a bit of extra effort, the rich texture will bring a sense of cozy luxury. This technique works best with neutral shades that mimic the colors of real suede. High-end paint companies like Sherwin Williams and Ralph Lauren make specialty paint intended to look just like brushed suede when applied properly.
Instructions
1. Prepare the room to be painted. Lay a drop cloth on the floor to prevent any spill or spatter stains. Apply painter's tape on the edges of the ceiling, windows, door frames and any other trim in the room.
2. Paint around any edges, windows or trim in short, close brush strokes, also known as "cutting in." Work in small sections no larger than three feet. If you work in sections too large, the paint will begin to dry and will not blend properly. Once you have completed a section, roll over the entire area using a -inch nap roller.
3. Paint the rest of the walls in a random pattern using the nine-inch nap roller. Make sure the roller is fully saturated for this step. This first coat will appear uneven, but any imperfections will blend with the second coat. Allow the paint to dry at least four to six hours, depending on the paint manufacturer's instructions.
4. Starting in the top corner of the wall, paint a criss-cross pattern using the three-inch paint brush. The pattern should appear as randomly placed, overlapping X's, creating a brushed suede appearance when dry. Paint the entirety of all walls in this fashion.
5. Allow paint to dry completely. Remove painter's tape.
