Raiders Sports Team Suggestions For Christmas Crafts

Whether you’re a Raiderette, hope to be or just want to support your team, adding California’s Oakland Raiders into your Christmas crafts projects plan is sure to score. Huddle up with the black and gray major league football team’s colors and let creativity "pile on" during the holiday season.

Suited Up Santa

Let Santa be your Most Valuable Player when he dons an Oakland Raiders helmet and uniform instead of his standard red velvety wear. Santas of any size (unlike in real life) can serve as the base for this Christmas craft; the larger the Santa, the more room you have to work with. For a larger, doll-sized Santa, paint a plastic helmet the forbidding black and gray colors of the Raiders. For tiny ornament Santas, make a simple helmet by rolling a ball of clay, then pressing your thumb into the ball until it forms the helmet shape. Black felt or even Raiders-print fabric make Santa’s uniform almost complete; cut out the number 25 to emblazon his chest. Don’t forget to fashion a little eye patch for him, just like the Raiders’ logo. Luckily, he’s got Rudolph to help guide his sleigh, so he won’t need both eyes to see.

Football Ornament

A standard craft around Christmas time, painting ornaments, scores a touchdown when you design a football in honor of the Raiders. Although the basic Christmas clear round ball ornaments aren’t exactly football shaped, they’re easy to find and inexpensive, so you’ll be able to create a few for other Raiders fans on your gift list. Paint the ornament with an allover brown color. When the paint is almost, but not completely dry, run a dry sponge (one you don’t plan to use again) gently over the surface to rough it up and give it that dimpled football texture. Use white and black paints to create the lines of the football. If you’re artistic, use those same paints to draw on the double-sword wielding Raiders logo on the side of the ornament. Otherwise, purchase a Raiders logo decal or simply hand-write "Have a Raiders Holiday" or "Merry Raiders Christmas!"

Raid the Stocking

With a Raiders-themed Christmas stocking, your family or friends won’t be able to wait to raid their goodies. No matter what level of crafter you consider yourself, you can create custom stockings. Fabric shops such as Jo-ann, Michaels or AC Moore offer Raiders-emblazoned yards of cloth; you’ll also find supplies online through websites such as Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority and the ESPN Shop, which offer a fleece Raiders fabric by the yard. Inexperienced sewers can use an in-and-out stitch to sew two mirror-image cutouts of the stockings together, or just use Crazy Glue or small pins. Cut out small swords to grace the top of the stocking, where white fur would traditionally be.
