Fresh paint A Living Room & Dining Area Combination

A family room provides a place to relax.

When you have a small home, some rooms may serve dual purposes such as a combination family room and dining room. Other homes may have open floor plans with one large room for multiple uses. Proper painting along with decorating can help the furniture and accessories in the room blend seamlessly together.

Instructions

1. Select the paint color for your combination family and dining room. Choose a color that goes well with both your dining room and family room furniture. Pick a neutral color like beige or eggshell white if the types of furniture are different.

2. Choose multiple paint colors if the room is large enough clearly separate the two sets of furniture. Using two paint colors helps to create the illusion of separate spaces and segment the room.

3. Install a wooden border if you choose to segment the room to provide a clear dividing point between paint colors. Nail vertical strips of molding to the wall that reach from floor to ceiling on either side of the room directly across from one another.

4. Cover the walls in a layer of primer using a paint roller. Use the same color and type of primer for both halves of the room. Allow time for the primer to dry.

5. Pour the two paint colors into separate trays if going with the divided room option. Use separate brushes and rollers so the colors do not blend together.

6. Apply painter's tape on each side of the vertical molding, if installed, and paint the trim using a small brush. Use white for the greatest definition on the border trim along the separate family room and dining room spaces.
