Painters and homeowners must be mindful of the safety procedures when painting outdoors.
Painting the exterior of a home requires the right equipment, the right paints, the proper application techniques and constant attention to safety. Each home environment is unique, and when combined with surrounding landscaping, a painter must pay special attention to how he sets up ladders and scaffolding in order to create a safe work environment for the painter on the ladder, and those who walk in and out of the work area.
Instructions
1. Set up two extension ladders on the gable end of the home. Place each ladder on either side of the uppermost point of the roof peak.
2. Hang ladder jacks on each ladder, 3 to 4 feet from the uppermost rug. Make sure to connect the ladder jacks to the extension ladders using all the safety equipment included with the jacks.
3. Place the extension plank on the ground between the feet of the ladders and the home, parallel to the wall of the home. Tie a short rope toward the ends of the plank so that the person on the ladder can lift the extension plank by the rope after she climbs the ladder.
4. Climb the ladders while holding the rope until both painters reach the height of the ladder jacks.
5. Hoist the metal plank vertically by the ropes until it reaches the level of the ladder jacks. Put the metal plank on the jacks so that the painter can walk between the ladders on the extension plank at the level within reach of the house's roof peak.
