Paint address numbers on the curb to help visitors find your house.
Painting address numbers on a curb allows easier identification of a house positioned far away from the street. Overgrown bushes and trees can block the view of an address sign on a house. Curb address numbers also last a long time if you use quality concrete paint. Whether you're looking to paint address numbers on curbs outside your house or business, the application process is pretty simple.
Instructions
1. Purchase a background stencil and an address number stencil from a home improvement outlet. Buy 3- to 5-inch letter stencils. Or buy a stencil kit from 123curbs.com.
2. Scrape off peeling paint, dirt and residue from the curb using a paint scraper. Dust off the area, using an old paint brush.
3. Tape the background stencil to the curb, using duct tape. Tightly secure the tape. Run your fingers firmly over the top. Mask off the surrounding concrete outside the stencil, using tape and masking paper.
4. Lightly spray a misty coat of black exterior flat enamel paint over the background stencil, pointing the can straight down, about 1 foot above the stencil. Use a spray paint designed for exterior concrete surfaces.
5. Wait a minute or two, then lightly spray the inside of the stencil again. Angle the spray can to fill in small areas around the inside of the stencil edges and corners. Spray until the color appears solid.
6. Carefully remove the background stencil and allow the paint to completely dry. Read the recoat recommendations on the side of the spray can before proceeding.
7. Tape the address numbers stencil over the middle of the dried black background color, centering the numbers. Secure the tape tightly, but use painters tape to prevent the black paint from peeling off during removal. Mask off the exposed black color, using tape and masking paper.
8. Spray white flat enamel paint over the top of the lettering stencil, using the same type of paint and method used for spraying the background color. Lightly spray one to three times over the stencil to ensure proper coverage over the black paint. Carefully remove the stenciling and masking paper.
