A light floor can make your walls appear like a blank canvas ready for painting.
Blank walls that need painting can provide an opportunity to make any changes you want in the room for little expense and big impact. While just about any color can be used in a room depending on preference, you'll want to select a color that visually works well with the color of your wood floors. To choose wall colors with light wood floors, there are a few aspects to consider. Once you settle on a color, you can get started prepping the room and painting.
Instructions
1. Consider the function of the room and the feel you want to exhibit in the room, such as warm or cool tones, using the existing feel of the wood floor as your guide. A light oak may give a warmer feel to the room than pine, which offers a cooler, plainer look.
2. Take into account whether or not you'll be using an area rug over your light floors and the colors that will be added by having an area rug. If you have furniture that also uses specific colors rather than neutrals, add this factor into your decision as well.
3. Select a color that coordinates with the colors of the rug and furniture to choose for your walls such as red, green, blue and so on. Use this color in a hue that is warm or cool according to what you determined from Step 1.
4. Plan to use light to medium shades of your chosen color so you don't overpower the light flooring. A light shade of the color you have chosen along with the appropriate tone can create an airy, bright feel in the room, while a medium shade can add to the depth of the room, often creating the feeling of a nicely confined space without being overbearing.
5. Head to your nearest home improvement store and select a variety of color samples from the paint department. As you select your samples keep in mind the color you want, the warm or cool feel you need to suit the flooring and the shade of light or darkness you prefer.
6. Bring home the color samples and compare the samples to the colors of furniture, rugs and curtains that exist in the room. Make your selection from the color samples and use the sample you decide on when you purchase your paint.
