Clorox bleach mixed with water is often used to kill mold and mildew before painting. The solution is sprayed onto the surface, and then allowed to dry. A second application is performed and then scrubbed with a soft-bristled brush or sponge. The surface is then rinsed with clean water and left to dry. Clorox bleach can stain clothing, and burn skin and eyes, so special care should be taken when using the concentrate. One cup of bleach is added to every gallon of water when you clean surfaces for painting.
Instructions
1. Put on rubber gloves and eye goggles. Pour 1 cup of Clorox bleach and 1 gallon of water into a mop bucket. Mix the bleach and water.
2. Fill a spray bottle with the bleach and water solution.
3. Spray the surface with the solution from top to bottom. Spray only enough to wet the area without causing water to run down the surface. Allow this coating to completely dry.
4. Spray the surface again with the bleach solution. Scrub the solution over the surface area with a scrub brush to allow the bleach to clean all foreign contaminants. Wipe away grime with a sponge. Rinse the sponge in clean water, and continue wiping away the bleach and grime until all residue has been removed. Allow the surface to dry.
